Alright... in an attempt to rejoin the Internet, at an early 1990's level, I have spent a long weekend nerding it up on the world wide web in the hope of putting together something you hipsters refer to as a website? I'm slightly obsessed and obsessive about the idea of having one online Hewlett hub of personal, professional and production information. Right now I'm using the domain dGeek.com if you want to have a look and kick the tires and give it a whirl. Advice, suggestions and submissions are welcome! If things work out, I'll start pointing all my domains the dGeek way.

Happy HTML, CSS and RSS to you all...

Your powerbook!!! Ah, nothing like a G4 PB. :) I love mine. And you're the reason that I own one. You know, geekasms and all that excitement that could be felt whenever you talked about it. So I finally bought one last year.

The domain? That's so great! The name could not be better!
I'll take a closer look at it as soon as possible. Which would be now, I think, even though I guess I should go to bed... (1am here...)

Sleep is overrated anyway.

Hi David,

First off, that picture of you and Mars is awesome. I love it.

Well dGeek looks good at first glance. I will be having a closer look at it soon. I'll get back if I have any suggestions. I actually have a fourm or two online and I am in the process of starting a website with a friend...call me crazy, but I think its fun building a website..lol :D

Hi David,

I love the domain name and the site looks good too.

I'm looking forward to McKay and Mrs Miller tomorrow. And I agree with Sandra. There has to be a way you can get a copy of the episode to Kate so she can wacht it too and won't have to wait until 2017 to see it.

Greetings,
Chantal

*blinks* Why is that your website is better than mine? Oh, right. You actually update yours more than once a year. Could be one reason, gotta say. Plus, I just use frames to do everything. Cause I'm lazy like that. And I can't do tables, php, any of that complicated stuff. *nods* But yours is pretty, dangit!

Oh, right. *goes to sign up*

One of these days I'm gonna kidnap Mars. You know this, right? Just one day poof he'll be in my room, like magic.

Side note: Too bad you couldn't get to the Con this weekend. I have a feeling another dorky boy would have been even better. Of course, meeting the nice cast (seriously, wow, y'all have all the nice people around on the cast, don't you? y'all kidnap and tell them to work on your cast or you'll make them watch Teletubbies for eight hours straight. i knew it.) was awesome in any case.

snap on the laptop front.

I've not heard of 'Joomla!' I've used other CMS's for clients before but I'm always on the look out for new ones, thanks for pointing it out :)

*crawls out of lurker's hole*

How comes that such a big dog as Mars manages to have the most adorable expressions? (Oh and, any chance to convince the man sitting next to the dog to smile more often? :D *coughs* Blame that statement on the way too little amount of coffee I had today.)

I really like how the website is set up! I may have some knowledge about html, but css is entirley (ok, not entirely, but almost) beyond my range. I'm tempted to fill out the screening request, but I'm not really sure if they're also meant to be used for requests in Austria (But to my defense, we do have english cinemas in Vienna. Even two of them!).

And for the record? dgeek is just perfect. :D

Very cool that you are using Joomla! I guess that lets us know where you stand on the whole Mambo split thing. :D

Once I get my URLs moved over to a new hosting company next month, I hope to set up Joomla as well. Perhaps you could provide some pointers as you work on the site. ;-)

Nice.

A moblog from you (cameraphones, anyone?) would rock so hard. Your cute, candid photos are a bright spot in any fan's day.

Also, Mars made me go "d'awwww" for like, 5 minutes just now.

A weekend working on a website? What a nerd! Not like I didn't do the same thing all summer... CSS is fun.

Site looks pretty good. I've played around with Joomla a little bit, but I stay away from CMS for the most part since I have no need for them. I tried making one, but that went no where. Maybe once I learn PHP? Hah.

And the domain name is awesome.

I love that you are probably the only actor I can think of who not only manages his own website, but probably knows HTML.

Just trying to picture someone like Tom Cruise sitting up late at night changing DNS info using an admin panel just sort of presents an amusing mental picture...

Hi David,

First, love the pic of you and Mars. Great.

Second, dGeek looks great. Before I fill out the form for a showing, I have to spend a couple of days finding out soe info. We have two old, restored movie theaters which now show independent and limited released films. We also have a university theater which has been used as a 'test' theater (the second Dalton James Bond film ran here for a month before major release) I'll see what I can find out for you.

Have a good week.

Thanks for your time.

Hi David,

Had a quick look at your website and didn't have much time to browse coz I'm at work and supposed to be working!

So far, I like it. I like the colouring, the font and the layout but I think I had problems finding some stuff - nothing major though... will let you know later via feedback etc at the site.

Love the pic - Mars just looks so cuddly and gorgeous. I've always meant to ask you this... uh, when you bring him on to the SGA set, does he get "hang out" with the other dogs - eg Torri's and Rachel's dogs?

I was thinking that he'd be one lucky dog to have so many girl-dogs around! :)

Take care. I love Keane too - but weird band - why don't they like the guitar??? I had a CD of theirs that I lost for a year and then found it again when I cleaned a cupboard!

Take care,
M

Love the domain name and that you're finally getting back on the web! I'd stumbled on to Darkyl Media back when it was still around while looking for Cube-related things.

I like the green and silver and white combination for the layout, but I think there needs to be more definition between the columns. For instance, in the dog blog, the top entry is easy to read, but once you scroll down, your eyes get a bit lost in the black text on white background. Could just be me though. I haven't played with Joomla! so I'm not sure if that's something you can control.

And I will shut up now before I try to view the CSS and deconstruct it because I'm a geek.

Oh Em Gee, you really know how to win a geek-loving audience, and I mean that in the best possible way.

I managed to screw up the registration though, *face-desk* and although I know I'll figure out how to put it to right, I feel like I just failed my geek-exam.

At 2:40 AM, Blogger watcher652 said...

Didn't you say in a interview once that you didn't post on the 'net, just lurked around? Look at you now! Making us signup and have to think of yet another password! 8-)

Will you be abandoning Blogger in favor of your new site or will you be maintaining both?

I know of one other actor who writes the code for his own site, Wil Wheaton, of Star Trek: The Next Generation and the movie Stand By Me. The two of you should get together. That would be a geekfest. He has a Powerbook, too.

Speaking of coding a website, I want to say that I miss the sites for Cube, Treed Murray, and Nothing. I was one of the many who sent an email on the Nothing site and got... nothing!

I'm looking forward to getting my logon to the new site. Since I don't have it yet, may I make a suggestion for the new site here? A link to Doctors Without Borders would be great, and a little bit about why you chose them as your charity would be even sweeter.

McKay and Mrs. Miller is the next Atlantis episode. Are you going to start episode threads on your new site?

When do you have time to sleep? 8-D

You do realize, don't you, that you've officially moved beyond "How are you so awesome?" and elevated yourself firmly to "Oh my God, he really is a Geek! How are we so lucky?"

...elevated. Okay, that was unintentional, I swear. No, really. It was.

I am a big fan of Atlantis, SG-1, scifi in general (I haven't figured out the wrestling aspect of science fiction, however!). When the show focuses on R. M., it is very enjoyable, especially how fast you talk, the science talk, you know, the yada yada yada. So I particularly enjoyed it tonight (Sept. 8) when "Jeannie" is staring out the window, and you are trying to get her attention and you call her "Katie". We backed it up, and sho nuff, you called her Katie. Personally, I LOVED it. I am the type who dearly loves little things like that. It made me want to reach out and hug both of you!
Love your blog, by the way.

Please bring the film to the UK!!!

Oh, and I love the new dgeek site. Already over there.

At 9:35 AM, Blogger watcher652 said...

Hi David! I can't get into dgeek, so I have to post here how much I loved McKay & Mrs Miller. You and your sister were great. I hope she can come back to Atlantis again. You'll have to tell us how it was working with your sister on the show now that it's aired. Don't save it all for the dvd extras!

At 9:39 AM, Blogger Stellar Drift said...

As long as you change your site so its possible for us to change font size (and hence actually read what is on it) then it would be fine.

Just saw the McKay and Mrs.Miller episode of Atlantis and I have to say it was a great episode. Nice to see McKay's relationship with his sister on the mend and to see him just sitting down and getting to know the rest of his team at the end of the episode. So far this has been a stand out year for Atlantis. Looking forward to the rest of the season.
